International Spotlight: Liberia

This January, Nightlight Christian Adoptions is honored to spotlight our Liberia Program—a path that unites loving families with children in need through a process built on ethics, compassion, and cultural respect. Since obtaining the program in 2025, we have a list of waiting children, and we continue to see lives transformed on both sides of the journey.

Why Adopt from Liberia?

Ethical Adoption Program

Liberia is a non-Hague Adoption Conventioncountry however they have a strong centralized Adoption Authority. This ensures:

  • Children are legally eligible and truly in need of adoption.
  • Birth family rights are fully respected.
  • Transparent, government-regulated processes are followed.
  • A focus is placed on the best interests of the child above all else.

Nightlight is qualified to walk with you through each step—from dossier preparation to homecoming.

Children Waiting for Families

Children eligible for adoption in Burkina Faso typically range from 2 to 14 years old, with many considered special needs. The term "special needs" can include a wide range of diagnoses or social factors, such as:

  • Sickle cell anemia (a common blood disorder in the region)
  • Malnutrition and developmental delays
  • Other blood disorders and chronic health conditions
  • Emotional trauma related to early childhood adversity
  • Older child status or sibling groups

These children are resilient, bright, and full of potential—they simply need the love and stability that a permanent family provides.

Predictable Timeline and Manageable Travel Requirements

The average timeframefrom application to homecoming is approximately 2 to 4 years, depending on family preferences, child matching, and dossier processing.

Travel is straightforward:

  • Two trips may be required.  One to finalize the adoption in person and the other to bring the child home.
  • Approximately 30 days in-country
  • Accompanied support from local partners and Nightlight staff
