Vietnam offers negotiations for inter-country adoption

This is good news (delivered by JCICS) for the future of international adoptions from Vietnam:

Program: International Relations Initiative
Date: September 8, 2009
Regarding: Vietnam Requests Negotiations

Following on our Update of September 1, 2008, it is Joint Council’s understanding that the Government of Vietnam has issued a formal diplomatic note to the United States Government naming a high ranking Vietnamese official as Vietnam’s lead negotiator and also requesting that both governments begin negotiations towards a new Memorandum of Agreement regarding intercountry adoption.

Joint Council applauds the Government of Vietnam for taking this very important step and encourages the U.S. Government to respond in a most positive manner.

  1. I think there's a little prolbem with the survey- it doesn't allow me to answer two related questions with the same answer. For example, it isn't allowing me to say that my adoption was international AND transracial (which it is), or that I strongly agree with all of the statements in question 7.
