My husband and I have always wanted children. When we got married in 2015, we wanted to start trying for a family not too long after, but it never happened. After a year of trying, we sought medical advice and received no answers. After many appointments and treatments, our doctors still could not give us a clear answer as to why we could not get pregnant. We knew that God knew our hearts and how we desired children. We were confident that He would expand our family in His timing and His ways. We had discussed adoption before we got married and knew we would one day proceed with it.
The start of 2023 was when God opened our hearts and doors to move forward with adoption. We started reaching local adoption organizations in our area, and God brought us to the Snowflakes program. Days after putting a formal inquiry in, we had a friend share that his daughter-in-law had just given birth to a precious embryo she had adopted! Everything fell into place.
It was another sign from God. We dived in and joined Snowflakes’ Open Hearts Program, a program dedicated to finding homes for “harder-to-place” embryos.
We matched with our first family in Spring 2023; they had ten embryos but wanted a closed adoption. In December 2023, we had our first transfer that we hoped to be one of many. Sadly, this was to be the only transfer from this batch, as the first seven did not survive the thaw. We proceeded to transfer the remaining three with hopes of triplets. But God in His mysterious ways did not allow that to happen. We grieve at the loss of these precious babies but know we will meet them one day.
We took some time to grieve our loss and prayed if we should try again. We felt God saying give it another go.
We went through the Open Hearts Program, this time around we matched with two families with smaller embryo batches. One of the families had three embryos, which were frozen since 1994! We had no idea IVF was a thing back then, but then again we were both too small to know such things (my husband was three years old and I was five!). We had no fears of the older embryos; we just wanted to give them a chance at life.
During the thawing process, one of the three embryos did not survive while two were transferred. Praise be to God, that transfer resulted in the pregnancy of our precious boy. This family wanted to have an open adoption, which we have loved! The placing mother has been our biggest fan!
In July 2025, we welcomed our sweet Thaddeus, “The world’s oldest baby.” Frozen, waiting for his forever family, for almost 31 years.
Life as first time parents with a newborn and media attention can put you through the ringer! However, we would not change it for the world. We want our story and Thaddeus’ story to be out there to give hope to others.
There is no expiration date on life.
Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you. Jeremiah 1:5
