Hi, we are Alan and Megan!
After several years of trying to grow our family, we received a diagnosis of unexplained infertility. Because of our age, doctors quickly recommended IVF and began outlining a series of medical steps to begin treatment. However, before moving forward, we felt led to pause and seek the Lord’s guidance. What was His plan for growing our family?
Both of us had always been open to adoption—we have friends and family members who have grown their families that way—so we began to pray and ask the Lord to lead us.
Around that time, I (Megan) remembered a moment from years ago when I met a family at church who introduced their youngest child as “our little snowflake.” They briefly explained they had adopted their child through embryo adoption. That memory stuck with me.
Then, during a drive across the city one day, I kept encountering detours on my way to my favorite coffee shop and plant nursery. Frustrated by all the unexpected turns—something that felt symbolic of our fertility journey—I found myself having to turn around in a parking lot. As I looked up, I realized it was an OB-GYN’s office. In that moment, I felt the Lord say, “You’ll need an OB before the nursery.” It was a clear, personal confirmation of something we had both felt: that I would one day carry and give birth to our children.
God soon connected us with families in our community who had built their families through embryo adoption. Hearing their stories gave us encouragement and direction. We started researching and learning more about the process.
It was through a Facebook post that we first discovered the Snowflakes Embryo Adoption Program with Nightlight. They were offering a free online seminar, and we decided to attend. What stood out to us was the level of care and support Nightlight provides—not just for the adopting family, but also for the placing family and the children. They offered everything we had hoped for: clear medical history, family matching, long-term support, and the opportunity for ongoing contact with the placing family.
Their process was clear, step-by-step, and transparent about both costs and timelines. We officially started our journey in August, reached the matching and contract phase by February, and had our first embryo transfer that June.
After a long two-week wait, we were thrilled to learn the transfer was successful. And in February, our beautiful baby boy, Neil, was born.
Our first little “snowflake” arrived a bit early, on a peaceful snowy morning—under the light of the full “Snow Moon.” It felt like a holy confirmation from God that Neil was born right on time.
Today, Neil is healthy, joyful, and the greatest blessing in our lives. We are praying that the remaining embryos from our placing family will one day join us here as well. We have also begun building a relationship with the placing family and are hopeful that our children will grow up connected to their biological siblings.
We are so grateful for the Snowflakes Program and for the gift of embryo adoption. It has allowed us to experience the joy of pregnancy, birth, and parenthood in a deeply meaningful way.
