Ever since we were dating, we talked often about having children. We knew we wanted to be parents, and we even wanted to adopt in some capacity.
About a year and a half into trying to conceive, we learned we were dealing with complete male-factor infertility.
We were devastated and took several years to process and seek out any possible treatment, hitting one dead-end after another. We sat down with a new specialist (the third one we had seen), and he suggested embryo adoption.
We didn’t know much about it, but we went home and did some research. Our main concern was the anonymous aspect of most embryo donations because we believe it’s important for any adopted child to know their origins, so we searched “open adoption of embryos” and Snowflakes was the first result that came up.
We matched fairly quickly with a wonderful family. Just reading their family profile gave us so much hope and peace. The clinical part of our journey was very difficult. We had two failed embryo transfers and one miscarriage. Finally, our last embryo was transferred and we had a thriving pregnancy, a beautiful birth, and our son—Copeland Jones—joined our family.
He is everything we dreamed of and more. We talk often with our placing family, sending each other pictures and family updates, and we so look forward to the day we all get to meet. They truly feel like extended family to us and we are so grateful for such a sweet, unique relationship and connection that we’ll carry throughout our lives. Copeland’s story is so special, and we praise God for the honor of being his parents and getting to share the intricacies of this story with him.
