John and Dawn

Dear Birthmother,

It is with great sadness and great joy that we write this letter. This is, no doubt, one of the most difficult decisions you have ever faced. Please do not underestimate your courage in giving your baby the gift of life. Choosing adoption for your baby is, yet, one more gift that you will give. I hope you will consider our family when you make this most important decision.

We are a family of five with two beautiful children, Ben and Noah, who live with us, and one beautiful baby girl, Eve, in Heaven. We only knew Eve for a brief time before she died almost five years ago. In her short little life she taught us something very important—that sadness heals and that our family has a lot of love yet to share. We believe that Eve was called to Heaven so that we would have room in our family for another baby who would need our care and love even more than she.

John and I first met each other when we were in high school, and our relationship started about halfway through college. During our time together we have shared many life experiences and each has blessed us with a deeper understanding and appreciation for each other. We think that the children in our home benefit from the closeness that we share.

We think of parenting as a journey, as we find that we learn as much from our children as they learn from us. God gives each of us special gifts and talents and it is such fun to help children discover what theirs’ are. Right now, Ben’s are soccer, art, basketball, theatre, and baseball. Noah loves ice hockey, piano, soccer, art, and baseball. In between all of this we try to spend time together exploring new camp grounds, visiting warm places, and making frequent trips to California where John and I grew up and where we find aunts and uncles and cousins and a grandpa who is a cowboy. We are excited to learn what your baby will love and to introduce him/her to new experiences and family.

We were both raised in Christian families. We recognize the value in our up bringing and we have provided this for Ben and Noah, and we intend to provide it for our new, adopted child. We are privileged to be members of a faith-filled community at our sons’ Catholic school and our church. It has provided us great strength and lends balance to our family.

Both John and I work outside of our home. He is an accountant for a travel company and I work at a local organization that works to prevent alcohol and drug use among youth. We are fortunate that both of our employers are flexible with our work schedules. John stays home three mornings a week while I go to my office. After that I come home and do some work in the evenings when the rest of the family is home and settled down. We both feel blessed to have employers that value our desire to balance our work life and home life, allowing us to be the sole caregivers of our children.

Ben and Noah are anxious to be big brothers. They both have a lot to share about adventure, sports, music, and art. Above all they fill our home with warmth, laughter, and joy.

Thank you for considering our family as you work on your birth plan for your baby. Please know that our family is open to knowing you before and after the birth if that is what you choose. However, we also respect your preferences and will honor however you would like to be involved with our family, knowing that your love will never be doubted.

With Warmest Sincerity,

John and Dawn
