Stepping Out In Faith
New Uganda Ministry
Not long ago Uganda was among the most troubled nations in the world. But following the efforts of many people and organizations, it seems a new day has come for this beautiful African country. Building on the progress that others have worked so hard to accomplish, Nightlight is humbled by the opportunity God has presented us to begin ministering in Uganda.
A verse and a song go a long way in explaining what has motivated Nightlight to become more involved in orphanage ministry – this time in Uganda. Isaiah 6:8 “And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?" Then I said, "Here am I! Send me." is wonderfully brought to life in a song written by Diane Thiel. The song says, “If You say go, we will go; if You say wait, we will wait. If You say step out on the water, and they say it can’t be done, we will fix our eyes on You and we will come.”
Our first efforts are directed toward assisting in the establishment of a new orphanage in Kampala, the country’s capital city. This orphanage, in conjunction with a pro-life ministry which offers women alternatives to abortion, will primarily serve babies and toddlers. Nightlight has formed a partnership with a registered non-governmental organization, Heart of a Child Uganda, to establish this new orphanage. Through designated gifts for African ministry, we have been able to provide the necessary funds to rent a home and begin the process of furnishing the house for up to 30 children. Lisa Prather from our South Carolina office has been to Uganda and met with our new partners, Kenneth and Cathy Nganda. She will also serve on the Board of Directors of Heart of a Child Uganda which will operate the orphanage.
God has confirmed His direction to us in so many ways that it is difficult to recount them all. But it is certainly our conviction that this was a step in faith that we needed to take. Many of you may have an interest in following the developments as this new ministry progresses. Why now, why Uganda? We believe this is the right time and the right place. We look forward to seeing how the Lord can use us.
